Glencoe Estate – A Living Legacy of Tasmania’s Colonial Past
Set against the windswept beauty of Falmouth’s rugged coastline, Glencoe Estate stands as a proud beacon of Tasmania’s early settlement history. Established in 1820, this colonial homestead was built using timber milled directly from the property and handmade bricks—each element a reflection of the skill and resilience of its original settlers.
For generations, Glencoe operated as a working farm and dairy, playing a vital role in the region’s agricultural foundation. Its paddocks and farm buildings once bustled with daily life, from tending livestock to crafting cheese in the estate’s original dairy rooms.
Now, Glencoe has been restored and brought back to life. The sweeping verandahs, once collapsed and weather-worn, have been carefully rebuilt—reclaiming their place as a defining feature of the homestead. Original 200-year-old shingles have been preserved and now stand proudly as a feature of the restoration. Each board and beam has been reconstructed with respect for the original craftsmanship, allowing the house to once again face the coastal winds of Falmouth.
